This artwork's inspiration came from the song "Snow" by Ricky Montgomery. When I listened to it I had a vivid image of a snowy night time scene with blood contrasting against the white snow. I wanted to capture the feeling of being surrounded by snow at night in the middle of nowhere. Here is the Song:
The entire snowy landscape is a painted displacement map I created in photoshop using a few different alpha brushes.
